GEELONG superstar Patrick Dangerfield is now the No. 1 player in the competition, according to the Schick AFL Player Ratings.

With Dangerfield overtaking injured Brownlow medallist Nathan Fyfe to reach top spot, he becomes only the fourth individual to do so since the Player Ratings began being recorded in 2010.

Gary Ablett and Scott Pendlebury were the other two to accomplish the feat.

Dangerfield overtook Fyfe in pole position after an astonishing effort from the Cat in his team's 31-point win against North Melbourne on Saturday night.

He racked up a career-high 48 disposals, 23 contested possessions, 13 clearances and two goals in a performance that coach Chris Scott said was as good as he had seen from a midfielder.

It was the fifth-best game ever recorded by the Player Ratings, coming in behind:

  • Lance Franklin's 13 goals against North Melbourne in round 10, 2012
  • Steve Johnson's 34 disposals and seven goals against Melbourne in round 19, 2011
  • Mark LeCras's 12 goals against Essendon in round 16, 2010
  • Ablett's 41 disposals and four goals against Adelaide in round eight, 2011

The ratings take into account the last 40 matches a player has been involved in over a rolling two-year period.

The Cats traded for Dangerfield and selection No. 50 at the end of last season, giving up picks No. 9 and 28, as well as midfielder Dean Gore.

Geelong's win at the weekend means they sit second on the ladder, behind only the Kangaroos.
