HAWTHORN star Cyril Rioli and his Richmond relative Daniel will both miss their club's matches this weekend to return to the Northern Territory for their grandfather's funeral.

Cyril Kalippa passed away earlier this month at the age of 81 after a battle with illness.

Cyril Rioli is flying to Darwin on Thursday for the funeral and will miss the Hawks' clash with Gold Coast on Sunday in Launceston, while 19-year-old Tigers forward Daniel is out of the match against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday.

Both players also missed a match each earlier this season to visit their grandfather.

Richmond released a statement on Wednesday saying they anticipated Daniel would miss just one game, but would provide the forward with the time he needs with his family.
