GOLD Coast defender Trent McKenzie will miss the rest of the season after suffering a groin injury in the final quarter of a NEAFL match on Sunday.

And the comeback of out-of-contract midfielder Jaeger O'Meara is again on hold, with the former Rising Star winner to miss another reserves game this weekend.

McKenzie suffered the injury in his first match back after a month on the sidelines with a quad problem.

A member of the Suns' inaugural team, he is stranded on 99 games but will be right at the start of pre-season training in November.

"He was best on ground up until the time he hurt himself," Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft told the club's website.

"He won’t play over the last month but I think the positive in all that is that it’s not a significant injury and he’ll be right to resume first day back at pre-season."

O'Meara will miss again after not being available the past fortnight with a knee niggle.

After suffering a ruptured patella in his only practice match of 2015, O'Meara played parts of three NEAFL matches before his latest setback.

"For Jaeger it’s a weekly assessment," Ashcroft said.

“We want to make sure long term that we do the right thing by Jaeger amongst the consultation with our medical team, our doctor and with other surgeons who have looked at his knee in the past.

"So we’ll look through all of the information that’s been gathered this week and make an assessment week-on-week, but at this stage you wouldn’t have thought Jaeger would play this weekend.”

Fellow defender Nick Malceski will likely miss two weeks with a flare-up of a knee injury in Sunday's two-point loss against Melbourne, while Jesse Lonergan (shoulder) will have to pass a fitness test to play Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.
