HIGHLY rated development coach Brett Allison will depart Melbourne seeking other coaching opportunities after Casey Scorpions play in the VFL Grand Final on Sunday.

Allison was the first coach appointed at the Demons after Paul Roos arrived at the beginning of 2014 and will move on with Melbourne in good shape to challenge for a finals spot.

Filling a development role, Allison watched the Demons move up the ladder to finish with 10 wins in 2016 and the Scorpions reach a VFL Grand Final under Justin Plapp.

A two-time premiership player with North Melbourne, the 48-year-old has a strong record of development at the Sydney Swans, the Kangaroos and now Melbourne.

Melbourne is reportedly interested in former Bombers assistant coach Matthew Egan, who decided to move on from Essendon where he coached from 2012.

Egan is just 33 but has already coached at senior level having stood in as the Bombers' interim coach for three matches after James Hird was sacked at the end of 2015.

He coached alongside new Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin when at Essendon.

The coaching merry-go-round has been gathering pace since the home and away season ended, with several clubs seeking to rejig their coaching set-up.

Richmond has sounded out experienced assistants Blake Caracella and Brett Montgomery while former Tigers assistant coach Brendon Lade has accepted a role at Port Adelaide.

Brenton Sanderson joined Collingwood on a two-year deal to work alongside Nathan Buckley, with the Magpies offering Robert Harvey and Scott Burns one- year deals to continue alongside Buckley.

The Brisbane Lions are expected to formally conduct interviews for a senior coach once Adelaide's David Noble joins the club, as expected, as football manager.
