DION Prestia is now a Tiger after Richmond and Gold Coast reached a deal for the talented midfielder.

Richmond will get Prestia and pick No.24 and send pick No.6 and their future second-round pick to Gold Coast.

Prestia requested a trade to Richmond at the end of the 2016 season after playing 95 games in six seasons with Gold Coast.

He has signed a five-year deal with the Tigers.

The No.9 pick in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, Prestia finished second in the Suns' 2013 best and fairest count and third in 2014, but knee injuries have limited him to 22 games over the past two seasons.

The 24-year-old midfielder will be a welcome addition to Richmond's midfield and should help relieve the heavy burden worn by Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin in recent seasons.

Richmond’s football manager Dan Richardson said the club was thrilled to secure Prestia.

“We identified Dion earlier this year as a player that we wanted at our football club, he’s a power runner, highly competitive and impacts games significantly,” Richardson said.

“Dion’s management made it clear to us that he was keen to return to Victoria to be closer to his family, and we’re really pleased for our club that he chose Richmond as his preferred destination."

Suns football manager Marcus Ashcroft said, “We have been clear with Richmond throughout negotiations that we expected a fair and reasonable exchange for Dion."

The Suns will now look to complete a trade for wantaway midfielder Jaeger O'Meara, but club chairman Tony Cochrane said on Wednesday morning the Hawks' existing offer of picks No.10 and No.48 was not acceptable.
