ZACH Tuohy has got his wish, with the Carlton running defender traded to Geelong after nominating the Cats as his preferred destination on the first day of the NAB AFL Trade Period.

In return, the Blues got Cats forward Billie Smedts, a future first-round pick and the No.63 pick the Cats gained after trading Shane Kersten to Fremantle.

Along with the 26-year-old Tuohy, Geelong received a future second-round pick from Carlton.

Tuohy has not missed a game since the start of the 2013 season, playing 120 games for the Blues, while Smedts has had an injury-interrupted career at the Cats, playing 38 games after being a first round selection in 2010.

Geelong had to make a special application to the AFL to be able to trade away its future first-round selection, as clubs are required to make two first-round selections in four years.

Indicative draft order

The Cats will have to do that in subsequent seasons after trading away its future first-round draft pick in the past two NAB AFL Trade Periods.

Tuohy shapes as a replacement for retired Cats champion Corey Enright, while Smedts needed a fresh start to ignite his career.
