FREMANTLE forward Shane Yarran will plead not guilty to a charge of aggravated common assault when he appears in court next month.

The 27-year-old advised the Dockers on Tuesday that he had been charged for an incident on the weekend that allegedly involved a family member.

He was due to return to pre-season training next week.

Yarran, a mature-age recruit to the Dockers at pick No.61 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, played six senior games this year.

Fremantle CEO Steve Rosich said the club would not make further comment while the matter was before the courts.

"An allegation of this nature is treated with the utmost seriousness by the club and we will continue to monitor the legal process closely," Rosich said.

The Dockers have advised the AFL of the matter.

It was the second incident involving a Fremantle player being investigated by police from the weekend.

Experienced defender Michael Johnson was allegedly involved in an incident while out in Leederville, Perth, which led to a complaint being made to police.

That matter is yet to be resolved with investigations ongoing.
