COLLINGWOOD father-son prospect Callum Brown says it would be "extra special" to hear his name called out alongside that of Josh Daicos in Friday night's NAB AFL Draft.
The Magpies have formally nominated Brown, the son of three-time best and fairest winner Gavin, and Daicos, the son of five-time leading goalkicker Peter, as potential father-son recruits.
Although other clubs have the chance to bid on both Brown and Daicos in the draft, the Magpies are expected to match the pick or the points attached to the pick under the League's father-son and academy bidding system.
"I've known Josh for a while now so we've become pretty close," Brown told AFL.com.au.
"It would be extra special if we did end up there together. To go to an AFL club would be awesome, but to go with one of your close mates would be even better."
Gavin Brown and Peter Daicos were premiership teammates at Collingwood in 1990, with both playing more than 250 games in storied careers for the club.
The families remain close and Callum Brown grew up playing junior football with and against Josh Daicos.
Brown admits the romantic notion of he and Daicos ending up at the club where their fathers are team of the century members often enters his thinking.
"I supported Collingwood as a kid. I probably didn't have a lot of choice growing up with Dad there and nor did Josh," Brown said.
"I'd love to go there. But there's no guarantees for Josh or I."
Callum Brown is an accumulator of the footy in the midfield. At 177cm, he regularly finds it, makes smart choices with the ball and gets involved in the play.
Brown averaged 19 disposals for Vic Metro across the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, earning All Australian honours and is likely to fit inside the top 30 in this year's draft.
Also standing 177cm, Josh Daicos is a small forward who possesses football nous and a craftiness around goal akin to his famous father. His draft range is from 25-50, given he has only had one full year in the elite junior pathway.
Daicos displayed glimpses for the Oakleigh Chargers throughout their TAC Cup season and played three games for Vic Metro in the mid-year championships. He then finished his season in a flourish, gathering 18 disposals in the NAB All Stars game.
Brown said Daicos deserved plaudits for fighting his way on to the Chargers' list after missing the squad as a bottom-aged player in 2015.
"Josh keeps improving every year. He's got such great natural ability and he's such a smart player. I'm really happy for him and how he's gone this year," Brown said.
