ADELAIDE is set to have its first father/son recruit after confirming small forward Ben Jarman will be offered a place on the Crows' rookie list.

The Crows took a gamble when they decided not to nominate Jarman – the son of Adelaide and Hawthorn great Darren – for the NAB AFL Draft.

After not getting picked by any of the 18 clubs on Friday night, the Crows are allowed to nominate Jarman as a father/son rookie selection ahead of Monday's rookie draft.

The only way Jarman doesn't get to the Crows is if he is picked up in the pre-season draft on Monday, which is extremely unlikely.

"As long as Ben gets through the pre-season draft, which I think we all know these days it's rare that's someone is taken in the pre-season draft, we would certainly guarantee Ben a rookie spot," Adelaide list manager Justin Reid told 5AA radio on Friday night.

"All falling into place, Ben will be down at the club (on) Tuesday morning ready to go."

Adelaide's head of football Brett Burton spoke with Ben and Darren on Friday night after the draft to inform them of the club's intentions of taking Ben as a father/son rookie.

"Ben's obviously a little bit flat, which is understandable, but you know, he'll move on pretty quickly, because he will have to get himself ready for training if all falls into place Monday afternoon," Reid said.

"The tough decisions aren't always the most popular, but we're trying to make the best decision for the football club and for the list.

"Probably for Ben, maybe this has worked out for him, because he gets the opportunity to stay home."

The Crows selected Jordan Gallucci (No.15 overall), Myles Poholke (No.44), Elliott Himmelberg (No.51), Matthew Signorello (No.62) and Ben Davis (No.75) with their five picks.
