SAV ROCCA has returned to Carlton as a specialist kicking coach after a year's absence.

The former Collingwood and North Melbourne spearhead worked at Ikon Park in 2015, when he had considerable success mentoring Blues forward Levi Casboult, who kicked 24.12 for the season.

Rocca and the Blues were unable to agree to terms for him to continue in 2016 and Casboult's goalkicking noticeably suffered (18.18 for the season).

However, Carlton announced on Monday Rocca, 43, had rejoined the Blues' coaching group.

Carlton football manager Andrew McKay said the club was delighted by Rocca's return.

"He not only has a wealth of knowledge in kicking techniques, but he is also able to pass that knowledge on to our players in a really effective way. I have no doubt our players will benefit from his guidance and support," McKay said.

During his AFL career, Rocca booted 748 goals in 257 games for Collingwood and North Melbourne between 1992 and 2006, the 14th highest tally in League history.

After retiring from the AFL, Rocca spent five seasons in America's National Football League (NFL) as a punter for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins.
