CHRISTMAS has come early for Hawthorn supporters, with Cyril Rioli extending his contract with the club until 2020.

The highly decorated 27-year-old has an impressive resumé in the brown and gold, having already won four premierships, the 2015 Norm Smith Medal and been All Australian on three occasions in just 178 games.

The contract extension means it is highly likely Rioli will be a one-club player.

"I'm very happy where I am, and couldn't see myself being anywhere else," Rioli told Hawthorn's website.

"There was no hesitation after being offered the extension until 2020. It was a no-brainer for me and I said yes immediately."

Rioli played 21 games and kicked 47 goals in 2016, his best return in his nine-season career.

Following the controversial departures of senior champions Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis in the trade period, Rioli said he was looking forward to working with the next generation of Hawks.

"We've got a lot of young guys coming through, and some of the guys I'm really close with, so I want to experience some wins and some success with those guys," he said.

Rioli was already contracted to the Hawks until the end of 2019.
