FOR A long time the Pies have been a Fantasy relevant side, boasting some of the competition's best scorers.

Five players posted season averages of more than 100 points in 2016, including Adam Treloar (MID, $673,000), Scott Pendlebury (MID, $641,000) and Steele Sidebottom (MID, $624,000). The trio will deliver what youc expect again in 2017 and will be popular choices, especially Treloar who scored more than 110 in 14 games.

Josh Thomas (MID/FWD, $274,000) and Lachlan Keeffe (DEF, $184,000) received 30 per cent discounts based on their 2014 average as they return from two seasons out of the game. The latter could be profitable cash cows in the backline.

Another defender returning after 12 months out who may make some quick cash is Matthew Scharenberg (DEF, $234,000).

Collingwood ranked third on the list for Fantasy points scored in 2016. Keep an eye on the entire list this pre-season as there is sure to be some gold in the black and white.

Finishing the season in blistering form to make him the second best ruckman, Brodie Grundy (RUC, $609,000) can hold down one of your two onfield ruck positions for the whole year. Following Collingwood's round 13 bye, Grundy delivered his coaches an average of 113.5. It can be argued that he is under-priced if he takes that into 2017. As long as Grundy is the number one and potentially sole ruckman, he has every opportunity to be the best Fantasy big man in the game.

In his last season at North Melbourne, Levi Greenwood (MID/FWD, $484,000) had a license to rack up hefty Fantasy scores. He averaged 101.7 in 2014, a far cry from the 83.2 and 80 points in his last two years at Collingwood. Greenwood's tagging roles can make for sporadic Fantasy output, however with his newly acquired FWD status, if he can add 10 points to his average he can be in the mix as one of the top forwards.

One of the gifts from the Fantasy Gods, aka the team at Champion Data who provide the official positions for Fantasy, was Taylor Adams (DEF/MID, $622,000) being available as a defender. He has averaged 101.2 and 102.9 in his last two seasons with the Magpies and is the most expensive defender available in 2017. With 12 scores over 110 in his last 30 games, Adams has a high ceiling and is likely to still play a large amount of time through the midfield. The 23-year-old needs some luck with injuries as he has never played more than 18 games in a season.

The Pies were busy in the off-season recruiting big names in Daniel Wells (MID, $531,000) from the Kangaroos and Chris Mayne (FWD, $466,000) from the Dockers, however former Giant Will Hoskin-Elliott (FWD, $230,000) offers the most value. Receiving a discount after player two games last season, the 23-year-old averaged 21 disposals and 93 Fantasy points this year in the NEAFL, backing up from his 106 point average the previous year. Hoskin-Elliott's best season for the Giants was in 2014, when he went at 67.8 points per game.

Collingwood fans will be keen to see what their father/son draftees Josh Daicos (FWD, $150,000) and Callum Brown (MID/FWD, $182,000) can produce in their first seasons. Brown is likely to be the pick of the duo, having averaged 91 Fantasy points in the TAC Cup.

Receiving the full 30 per cent discount after sitting out last season with a back complaint, Jamie Elliott (FWD, $330,000) should be considered as a mid-priced forward option. The small forward is progressing well this pre-season and if he can return to the form of 2014, when he averaged 83.8 points, Eliott will be one of the buys of the year in your forward six.

He was a Fantasy hero for us making $130K, but Daniel Wells (MID, $531,000) doesn't offer the same value this year. First, he is priced based on the 87.9 points he averaged in 2016, the second highest across his 14-year career, and second, he is available as a MID only in 2017.
