JONATHON Patton has sounded a warning to the competition, declaring Greater Western Sydney's dangerous trio of tall forwards will only become a bigger threat this season.

Patton, the No.1 pick in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, formed a damaging partnership with spearhead Jeremy Cameron and 206cm surprise packet Rory Lobb as the Giants fell agonisingly short of a maiden Grand Final appearance last year.

The three combined for 120 majors in their first full season together in 2016, and are poised to become even tougher to contain.

"Myself, Jeremy and Rory were working pretty well together at the end of the year and got some good momentum between us," Patton told gwsgiants.com.au.

"We're working really well now in training – because us three didn't really work together too much before 2016 – so to have that full year together is going to help us heaps this year."

The Giants were the AFL's second-highest scoring side last season, averaging 108 points per game, and the 2017 premiership favourites have further bolstered their potent attack with the arrival of ex-Richmond star Brett Deledio.

"He's been really good. He's just a different leader as well to come in, because our forward line group is very young," Patton said of the former Tiger.

"So to have Stevie (Johnson) come in last year and Brett this year, it's been really good just to have some older faces that have been there and done it.

"Also on the training track he's such a classy player, you really notice it and I can't wait to play alongside him."

The 23-year-old big man nominated key defender Aidan Corr as one of the Giants' pre-season standouts after an injury-interrupted start to his career.

Patton has also liked the look of first-year midfielder Tim Taranto, who was added to GWS' overflowing treasure trove of talent via pick No.2 in last year's draft.

"All the young boys to be honest have been really good and you can see why we got them – especially Tim Taranto at pick two, he's been really impressive as well," Patton said.

After last year's preliminary final exit, the Giants only trained for three weeks before Christmas, and are set to ramp up their pre-season workload heading towards their first JLT Community Series clash against West Coast on February 18.
