CARLTON has placed ruckman Andrew Phillips, who has succumbed to a stress reaction in his left foot, on the long-term injury list.

The big man has avoided surgery on his troublesome foot but will still be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

Phillips saw a specialist during the week, with rest rather than surgery recommended as the appropriate course of action.

The Blues are yet to name a replacement for the 202cm big man but Phillips looks in extreme doubt for round one. His move to the long-term injury list paves the way for Carlton to elevate a rookie in his place.

Former Fremantle defender Alex Silvagni, selected with pick No.23 in the Rookie Draft, may come into contention as another tall option as the Blues look to add experience to a youthful back six.
