Melbourne v Carlton

Melbourne will be hoping for a better result than the 43-point loss it suffered against Carlton when the teams met in a pre-season practice match in January.

On that day, the Demons managed just a single goal but defender Jasmine Grierson feels the team has improved since then.

"To realise what we're doing and the game plan [is] really working has given us confidence," Grierson told afl.com.au.

"We've got something to go off from that practice match… It was the first match playing as a team but we have changed so much since."

Melbourne made just one change for the match, with Aliesha Newman back after being a late withdrawal last week. Sarah Jolly was omitted.

Although Carlton lost a hard-fought contest last week against Adelaide, captain Lauren Arnell said the Blues took a lot out of the match.

"For two weeks in a row, we've had the experience of performing under pressure when the game is close. I think we'll be better for it," Arnell told carltonfc.com.au.

"It's important for the group to remain positive and remember that we're in a very good position in this competition right now."

Carlton suffered a huge blow during the week, with defenders Brianna Davey and Sarah Last ruled out due to injury.

Davey is expected to miss at least two weeks with a lower back injury while Last ruptured her ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.

Midfielder Jessica Kennedy comes back into the side after being omitted last week and ruck/defender Tahni Nestor will make her AFLW debut.

Brisbane Lions v Greater Western Sydney
3.35pm AEST, Saturday, February 25
South Pine Sports Complex

The Brisbane Lions will be looking to continue their undefeated start to the season when they host Greater Western Sydney.

Despite facing a team they are expected to beat, Lions midfielder Kate McCarthy said they weren't expecting an easy match.

"[Every] team has the ability to beat another team in the competition... it just depends on when you come up against them," McCarthy said.

"We've got to play well."

The Lions have made two changes to the team that defeated Collingwood last week.

Forward Jordan Membrey and rookie defender Kate Deegan will play their first AFLW matches, replacing defender Tahlia Randall (shoulder) and small forward Shaleise Law (omitted).

The Giants are still looking for their first win after playing in the first draw of the AFLW competition last week against Fremantle.

Defender Renee Tomkins said one of the keys to winning the game would be limiting the influence of Brisbane marquee player Tayla Harris, who has taken almost twice as many contested marks (nine) as anyone else in the competition (five).

"Tayla's very good in the air – she contests and marks the ball very well," Tomkins told afl.com.au.

"If I get on top of that and don't let her be first to the ball, I think I'll be right.

"But it's going to take a pretty big effort."

The Giants made one change, with defender Alex Saundry recalled to replace forward Jacinda Barclay, who accepted a one-match suspension for a sling tackle on Fremantle's Tiah Haynes.

Western Bulldogs v Collingwood
7.10pm AEDT, Saturday, February 25
Whitten Oval

The Western Bulldogs will host Collingwood in their final home game of the season, needing a win to keep their season alive.

The Bulldogs have lost their last two games and coach Paul Groves said the team needed to stop worrying about results and just play good football.

"We need to focus on the processes of winning games," he told westernbulldogs.com.au.

"We're a good team. We're just not playing with a high degree of confidence."

The Bulldogs made three changes, with captain Katie Brennan named, although she is still not certain to play after suffering an ankle injury two weeks ago against Adelaide.

The Bulldogs also selected key position players Lauren Moorecroft and Meg McDonald, who will be making their AFLW debuts. Rebecca Neaves, Jess Gardner and Courtney Clarkson were omitted.

Despite being winless in three rounds and sitting on the bottom of the ladder, Collingwood coach Wayne Siekman is upbeat about his team's performance.

"We had a really good four-quarter effort last week," Siekman told collingwoodfc.com.au.

The Pies narrowly lost to the Brisbane Lions and Siekman believes that effort will give his players confidence for this weekend's game.

"We've got to continue the momentum we had from last week, especially with the way we finished," he said.

"If we start that way, it gives us an opportunity to post our first win of the season."

Collingwood named an unchanged side to face the Dogs.

Fremantle v Adelaide
4.05pm AWST, Sunday, February 26
Fremantle Oval

Fremantle coach Michelle Cowan believes the Dockers' season isn't over, despite claiming just two points from the first three rounds.

"Every week is really important for us," Cowan said.

"Our season is still alive, absolutely, and the girls know that. They'll be out to compete on Sunday."

Fremantle played in the first AFLW draw last week against GWS and Cowan said the team still has areas it needs to improve on.

"It was easy for us to identify what we need to work on from last weekend. Our team defence was something that let us down, but the great thing is they are fixable," she said.

The Dockers were forced to make a change after midfielder Tiah Haynes was ruled out for the season. Haynes suffered a dislocated shoulder in a sling tackle by Giant Jacinda Barclay. Her place was taken by Melissa Caulfield. Brooke Whyte also comes into the Dockers' side for Tarnica Golisano.

Adelaide coach Bec Goddard said her team is not getting too far ahead of itself, despite being considered one of the favourites to make the Grand Final.

"Never before have I been in a competition where you win three games and people are talking about Grand Finals. It's kind of crazy in a way," Goddard said with a laugh.

Despite sitting at opposite ends of the ladder, Goddard said the Crows aren't taking Fremantle lightly, especially considering they lost to the Dockers in a pre-season practice match in Darwin.

"[They are a] really great opponent. They've got superstars across the field," she said.

"We got beaten the last time we played and we want to put forward a better effort this time around.

"We're treating the game like it's a final."

Marquee player Kellie Gibson was selected despite rolling her ankle in the first minute and sitting out the rest of last week's game.

The Crows have made two changes, with key position player Sarah Allan and midfielder Monique Hollick coming in at the expense of Anne Hatchard and Justine Mules.
