SYDNEY forward Shaun Edwards will have the chance to represent his third AFL club after he was upgraded from the rookie list ahead of the club's round one clash against Port Adelaide at the SCG on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Brisbane Lions midfielder Jake Barrett has also been promoted to the senior list.

Both started their careers at Greater Western Sydney.

Edwards, who replaced injured speedster Gary Rohan, has played 24 matches for the Giants and Essendon.

Since the 23-year-old made his debut in 2012, he has booted 10 goals.

The Swans are somewhat undermanned in attack with Tom Papley recovering from knee surgery.

Barrett, 21, has toughness and runs hard. He replaced Sam Skinner on the senior list, as the defender rehabs from a second ACL reconstruction to his left knee.

"Jake thoroughly deserves his elevation to the senior list," coach Chris Fagan told lions.com.au.

"At every point in the pre-season, he has shown that he is committed to playing senior football, so I am really pleased that he now has a chance to prove himself."

Barrett played one game for the Giants in the final round of 2015.

The Lions face Gold Coast on Saturday night at Metricon Stadium.

Melbourne rookie Joel Smith will make his AFL debut after being upgraded as the replacement for Mitch King (knee), who was already on the long-term injury list.

In other club changes, Richmond's Jack Graham (ankle) and Hawthorn's Jon Ceglar (knee) were also added to the long-term injury lists with no replacements named.
