DAVID Swallow will play his first senior game in almost two years on Saturday after passing a fitness test on the Gold Coast on Thursday morning.

While the Suns' main session was hampered due to torrential rain, Swallow was put through his paces after an ankle injury forced him to withdraw late from round one.

His last game was against the Western Bulldogs in Cairns in July 2015, before knee problems kept him off the field last year.

"Yes, he's playing," Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade told AFL.com.au.

"It'll be good to have him back."

Swallow did some running and agility work on a trampoline to prove his fitness, while the main group was forced to an indoor basketball court to complete the majority of its session.

The former number one draft pick is a much-needed 'in' for the Suns ahead of Saturday's game against Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium.

Tall defender Jack Leslie will also be brought into the team after the Suns' two-point QClash loss to the Brisbane Lions last weekend.

Eade said Gold Coast had kept things positive this week after the loss.

"We took more good than ordinary out of the game, although the main ordinary was that we lost," he said.

"We spoke about the first 20 minutes (when Gold Coast conceded seven unanswered goals) and how it occurred and what happened, the mindset, but we fought back pretty well."

Eade said he was wary of a wounded Giants outfit that was humbled by Adelaide in their opening round.

"We just need to bring some intensity around the footy and put some pressure on them to win the ball back, then use it the right way."

Gold Coast will be without Lions recruit Pearce Hanley, who returned to Ireland to be with his younger brother Tommy, who passed away earlier this week.
