PORT Adelaide forward Jarman Impey has matured as a person after his off-season indiscretion, putting his energy into paying back the Power on the field.

Impey caused almost $20,000 of damage when he crashed into four parked cars after a party in December.

The 21-year-old fled the scene and didn't report to police until 18 hours later, beyond the legal time limit to comply with alcohol breath testing.

"We're not all perfect, you've just got to learn from these things," Impey told AFL.com.au.

"You never want to make mistakes, but that's life and I've become a better person from it.

"It was just an accident, simple as that.

"These things happen and I'm glad it's behind me."

Impey was convicted for driving without due care, failing to stop and give particulars to a person at a crash scene and not providing details to police.

Prosecutors were unable to establish in court whether Impey had been drinking before he got behind the wheel.

Impey was at the house of experienced forward Angus Monfries where players had been drinking during the afternoon.

Impey was fined $5000 by the Power and suspended for his team's round one win against Sydney at the SCG.

The Adelaide Magistrates Court also fined Impey $700 when his case was heard in late March, but no driving disqualification was imposed.

Monfries' Audi was one of the cars Impey crashed into with the late-model white Commodore that belonged to his late father Glenn, who lost his battle with cancer in October last year.

Impey returned to the Power for their round two victory against Fremantle.

He has played a key role for the Power in their promising 3-2 start to the season with his ability to apply pressure in the forward 50 with his pace and tackling.

"I'm rapt to be able to come back and play," Impey said.

"I love the group we have.

"It was very hard to miss round one in Sydney and it was the 200th game for Travis Boak, but it was very exciting for the boys to get the win."

Teammate Aidyn Johnson – who was in the passenger's seat next to Impey – was also fined $5000 and suspended from the Power's round one game.

Johnson, 19, made an impressive debut in the Power's 90-point win against Carlton last Friday night, kicking two goals, including a goal with his first kick.

"It was sensational, I got shivers seeing it and I ran over to him straight away like the rest of the boys," Impey said.

"We know what he can bring to the game, so we were all very excited to see him play his first game.

"He showed it on the field and he was excellent."
