IT IS the calm before the storm. Following last week’s mini-bye round, which produced plenty of big scores to ease the pressure for coaches who were down their Gold Coast and Port Adelaide players, we have a full set of nine games this round.

But it’s only for this week.

A Hawk is snouted: Mitchell named Fantasy Pig

On the eve of the three multi-bye rounds, Fantasy coaches should start thinking about being without some players over the next few weeks.

This is important if you’re playing league games over the bye weeks and even more so if you’re hunting for the highest overall ranking possible.

Including this week’s trades, we have five moves to make ahead of round 11. That is, two this week and three next.

We are given an extra trade to use in each of the three multi-bye rounds. Only 18 scorers from your on-field 22 count towards your weekly totals during this time.

Limited bench players will make navigating the byes harder than usual, so keeping an eye on your spread, making sure you have as many playing each week.

Trading in Suns and Power players is a good strategy this week as they will play throughout the byes.

Gary Ablett (MID, $672,000) and Jasper Pittard (DEF, $519,000) are among the most popular players traded in.

Also consider Michael Barlow (MID/FWD, $530,000) as a well-priced forward option or even Brad Ebert (MID, $606,000) who hasn’t put a foot wrong this season.

It’s not only the byes that add extra thinking to the Fantasy week. Over the next five rounds there are Thursday night games.

This week Geelong hosts Port Adelaide and at 7:20pm AEST, Cats and Power players will be locked. If you wish to make trades or name any of these guys as captain, vice-captain or emergencies, you must do so before the ball bounces to start the game.

Full lock-out for players from the 16 other teams will come into effect at 7:50pm AEST on Friday.

If you want to score as many points as you can over the multi-bye rounds, follow the basics of trading out fattened cash cows on a bye for someone coming off their bye. Aim to have as many players available each week while upgrading your team.

The Traders will be chatting all things Fantasy from 6pm AEST. Roy, Calvin and Warnie discuss the ins and outs ahead of Thursday night's partial lockout.
