HAWTHORN has recalled the out-of-favour Ryan Schoenmakers for his first game since round one, with the swingman one of four premiership players to return for the Hawks' Thursday night clash with Adelaide.

Schoenmakers has been out of Hawthorn's senior side since round one, when he was dropped following the Hawks' loss to Essendon.

The 26-year-old was a key part of the club's 2015 premiership victory, and will come back into the side alongside former skipper Luke Hodge and Grant Birchall, who are back from injury, and Luke Breust, who missed the Hawks' round 12 meeting with Gold Coast with illness.

Veteran defender Josh Gibson will miss with a groin injury, while Brendan Whitecross, Kade Stewart and James Cousins have been omitted.

The Crows have resisted the urge to bring back flying forward Mitch McGovern after a long stint on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Adelaide has made just one change, replacing Riley Knight (omitted) with Luke Brown for the Adelaide Oval contest.
