AFL.com.au has compiled this year's draft order based on the ladder after 16 rounds, including future selections that were traded last year.

North Melbourne's rebuild could be aided by its earliest draft pick in 15 years if its struggling form continues for the rest of the season.

The Roos are languishing in 17th position on the ladder and presently hold pick No.2, which would be the club's earliest entry to a NAB AFL Draft since they took Daniel Wells with the second overall selection in 2002.

The club has never had a No.1 pick, and is perched one win ahead of 18th-placed Brisbane Lions. The sides meet in round 23 at the Gabba in a clash that could decide the wooden spoon.

Victorian pair Cameron Rayner, a powerful and explosive half-forward/midfielder, and Luke Davies-Uniacke, a competitive ball-winner, are the most likely candidates for the No.1 pick this year.

Under the indicative draft order compiled by AFL.com.au following round 16, the Lions have three top-20 picks – their own first-rounder, the first-round selection that was traded their way last year which is tied to Port Adelaide's finishing position (currently No.15), and the first pick in the second round (currently No.18).

Richmond holds two first round picks (presently placed at No.13 and No.16), with the second tied to Geelong's finishing position.

Greater Western Sydney was effectively stripped of its first-round pick as part of the penalties imposed on the club for the Lachie Whitfield saga last year.

Hawthorn's improved recent form has seen it rise to 13th spot on the ladder, meaning its first-round pick, which is held by the Saints after last year's active trade period, sits at No.6.

The Saints also have their own selection in the first round, presently placed at No.12, gives the club a strong hand early in the draft.
