FREMANTLE youngster Harley Balic has been granted another period of indefinite leave from the club after straining his hamstring at training last week.

The 20-year-old was initially granted leave in mid-May to deal with a personal issue.

He returned to the club last month after the round 13 bye and was back playing for Peel on July 8 after nearly two months out of competitive football.

But Balic's comeback lasted just one game before he hurt his hamstring, and he returned home to Melbourne on Monday for his latest break from the Dockers.

"It is in Harley Balic’s best interests to take a further leave of absence and we will continue to provide him with all the support and resources that he requires," general manager of football operations Chris Bond said.

"There will be no further comment from the club on this matter."

Balic's future at the Dockers is uncertain, with the two-year contract he signed as a draftee set to expire at season's end.

The inside midfielder showed plenty of promise early this year after he made his debut when Freo turned to youth in round three.

Balic played four games, averaging 13 touches and booting three goals, before taking his first leave of absence from the club.

Wrist surgery derailed his 2016 campaign after he was drafted with pick No.38 the previous year.

However, Balic returned late in Peel's WAFL campaign and played in the club's maiden premiership victory.
