Early prognosis

As the Blues' injury toll continues to mount, they hope to regain veteran Dale Thomas and youngsters David Cuningham and Tom Williamson for Sunday's game against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba. With defenders Dylan Buckley out with a hamstring strain and Ciaran Byrne and Alex Silvagni battling to be available after being injured against the Bulldogs last Sunday, Harrison Macreadie and Ciaran Sheehan will come into calculations. Macreadie impressed with 25 disposals and five marks in the Northern Blues' loss to Essendon last Saturday and Sheehan picked up 20 disposals.  - Howard Kotton

Early prognosis

The Bombers will regain former captain Watson for their meeting with the Kangaroos at Saturday after he sat out last week's win over St Kilda with soreness. The veteran is being carefully managed this season. Essendon will lose small forward Green to a minor hamstring injury, but Ambrose is likely to play in the VFL after recovering from successive quad injuries. Early prognosis

Cameron, Coniglio, Reid and de Boer could all be a chance to play Richmond if they can get through training this week. Coach Leon Cameron will need to decide if Coniglio needs a game in the NEAFL after not playing since round eight, and managing just two games for the year. Himmelberg should also be available, with the Giants' main session on Thursday the key factor in selection. In other good news, Kennedy ran for the first time this week after having a knee reconstruction in May. - Adam Curley

Geary suffered a knock to the quad against Essendon but the tough skipper is expected to be fit for Saturday night's clash against Sydney at the SCG. Longer would likely come straight back in if he proves his fitness after suffering a corkie against Richmond in round 16. Rice copped a heavy corkie of his own in the VFL and missed the second half, so is in some doubt to come up this weekend. – Dinny Navaratnam
