COLLINGWOOD forward Josh Daicos will make his debut against Geelong at the MCG on Saturday.

The 18-year-old has been in good form in the VFL and was the team's carryover emergency last week when the Magpies played Port Adelaide.

Daicos, the son of 1990 premiership player and fan favourite Peter Daicos, was over the moon after being told he would debut by coach Nathan Buckley.

"This morning's meeting, Bucks got all the boys together, pulled me aside, and announced I'd be making my debut," he told Channel Nine.

"I've always wanted to play on the MCG. You know, 2:10 on a Saturday, it doesn't get much better.

"There's a lot of external public pressure to live up to. But, within the club, I just focus on my footy, what I can control, and don't really let negative external media get in my head."

"I think I'll just be playing that high half-forward role, with maybe a bit of time on the wing.

"To be out there with the boys and put on the black and white is a privilege, so I'm really looking forward to it."

Peter, who earned the nickname the Macedonian Marvel during his 250-game career, kicked 97 goals in the Magpies premiership year of 1990 and finished his career with 549 goals.

Daicos also revealed how he broke the news to his family, and the emotional reaction of his father.

"I called Mum first, I thought I'd keep her happy. She was really proud. Dad was a bit more taken by it, it almost sounded like he was going to cry, so yeah, he's just really proud and excited for me," he said.

"Same with my brother and sister, they just know how much hard work its taken to get here, and they've just told me to enjoy it."

Despite acknowledging the nerves will come, Daicos was caught up in the excitement of the moment.

"I think I've been in the mix for a while now, so I think I'm pretty comfortable with being selected," he said.

"I'm just really excited, I'm sure I'll be really nervous come Saturday morning and the build up towards the game, but right now I'm just really excited."

Daicos was drafted at pick No.57 at the 2016 NAB AFL Draft as a father-son selection and impressed in the JLT Community Series with his clean hands and agility.

The Magpies now give the No.35 jumper Peter Daicos and Simon Prestigiacomo made famous to the first selection in each draft for one season.

Josh Daicos chose to wear No.26 in 2017 and Sam McLarty, who was selected at pick No.30 in 2016 wore No.35.

Daicos, who played TAC Cup with the Oakleigh Chargers, has kicked eight goals in his 14 VFL games.

He will play alongside Callum Brown and Darcy Moore, who are also father-son selections.
