WESTERN Bulldogs key forward Jack Redpath has rebuffed significant interest from rival clubs to sign a two-year contract extension with the club.
It's the first multi-year deal the 26-year-old has signed at Whitten Oval after previously inking six-straight one-year deals since being recruited with pick 62 in the 2011 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
As reported by AFL.com.au on Friday, third-year midfielder Lukas Webb has also recommitted for a further two seasons, while veteran Dale Morris' wish to play on has been rubber-stamped with a one-year deal.
Carlton was one of several clubs to enquire about Redpath, but the popular clubman hopes to build on a career in the red, white and blue that’s seen him kick 56 goals from 34 games.
Bulldogs list manager Jason McCartney said the Dogs were delighted to retain the services of the hulking forward.
“We’ve regularly seen glimpses of what Jack can do on the footy field and we’re confident his best is still ahead of him,” McCartney said.
“If he can get some continuity into his game and continues to work hard I have no doubt he can be a real presence for us up forward.”
With Robert Murphy and Matthew Boyd calling time on their highly respected careers, Morris' ability to overcome an injury-interrupted season is a massive fillip for a young Bulldog backline.
The 34-year-old, who has represented the club on 241 occasions and earned All Australian honours, is like a playing coach for young defenders Zaine Cordy, Lewis Young and Bailey Williams.
“On the field, Dale’s versatility down back is invaluable and we know he gives his all every time he pulls on the jumper,” McCartney said.
“He’s been a stalwart at our footy club for many, many years, and with his experience, toughness and work ethic, he’s the ideal player to have around our young group as they continue to grow and mature.”
The retention of the valuable trio leaves only forward Stewart Crameri, rugged midfielder Mitch Honeychurch and untried wingman Declan Hamilton as senior-listed players without deals for 2018.
Crameri appears certain to be delisted if he can't find a home in next month's trade period, as he's yet to be offered a new deal after playing just two senior games over the past two seasons.
Honeychurch is likely to seek greener pastures after playing just 22 games in four seasons at the club.
Hamilton, the nephew of Darren and Andrew Jarman, is unlikely to offered a new contract after being unable to make his debut in three seasons at the club.
