PORT Adelaide has reaffirmed coach Ken Hinkley "is not on the market" after what it has labelled as a "speculative" approach from Gold Coast.

The Power have confirmed AFL.com.au's earlier report that Suns chief executive Mark Evans phoned Hinkley's Queensland-based agent Peter Blucher.

"Port Adelaide has advised the Gold Coast Suns that Hinkley is under contract until the end of 2018 and is not on the market," the Power said in a statement.

Earlier this week the Power had made noises about wanting to extend Hinkley's tenure beyond his current term, which ends after next season.

However, now the club says those discussions won't happen until after a review of its 2017 season is finished.

"The club is still conducting its 2017 season review following Saturday night's elimination final loss to West Coast," the club said in a statement released on Friday afternoon.

"Port Adelaide will resume contract discussions with Hinkley and his manager on completion of the review.

As AFL.com.au reported earlier this week, 50-year-old Hinkley remains on the radar of the Suns' coaching selection committee despite Port's apparent reluctance to consider releasing him with a year to run on his contract.

Adding to the intrigue is the public commentary surrounding the team's performance which repeatedly comes from the club's chairman David Koch.

On Monday, Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas indicated the club would look to re-sign Hinkley to a longer-term deal.

However, the prospect of a five-year offer to rebuild the fledgling Suns might be appealing to Hinkley, who was an early member of the Suns' coaching staff as an assistant to inaugural senior coach Guy McKenna.

Blucher has been contacted for comment.
