Fan Engagement Manager - Melbourne FC

The Melbourne Football Club is the founding club of the AFL. Based at Australia's most iconic sports stadium, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, it is part of the fabric of the city of Melbourne which has over 40,000 members and attracts over 400,000 attendees to its games each year.

The Club has strong leadership and is an emerging team in the competition, looking to build a strong, diverse and sustainable future.

An exciting and new role has recently been developed to guarantee the ongoing sustainability of the Club through the generation of new fans. The role will report to the General Manager of Marketing and Growth and oversee a team that will be responsible for increasing engagement and participation from our identified new fan groups: Women and Girls, Newcomers to Melbourne, International Students and Kids.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have an appreciation of cultural and gender variances and be considerate and practised in your approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a Fan Growth and Engagement Strategy with the aim of building a diversified and fully engaged fan base
  • Develop online and offline programs and initiatives to engage new fan target groups
  • Establish and maintain key stakeholder relationships relevant to new fan target groups
  • Develop data acquisition strategy for each new fan target groups with the aim of establishing a qualified fan base and prospect pool for relationship marketing
  • Implement tools for tracking ongoing engagement of new fan target groups
  • Capitalise on a new generation of women's interest in our game through pioneering position in this space
  • Celebrate and harbour the interest of 'People that come to Melbourne'
  • Establish and build 'The Welcome Game' as a marquee game in the AFL Fixture
  • Maximise opportunities through brand and physical location to engage new fan target groups – Tours, Merchandise etc.
  • Identify new business opportunities and commercial partnerships related to new fan target groups

Competencies and Attributes:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is desirable
  • An expert at understanding how to engage and activate fans and fan communities across a variety of online and offline channels
  • Ability to relate to and build relationships with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Metric obsessed and growth driven
  • Experience creating and executing marketing plans
  • Experience marketing to culturally diverse audiences
  • Highly motivated individual with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including an ability to present well in front of small and large groups of people and to Executive level.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to analyse data, understand trends, develop recommendations for action based on the analysis.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and an ability to network and build strong professional relationships
  • Strong leadership skills, with an ability to motivate and encourage team co-operation
  • A strong listener and active participant
  • Previous experience managing staff would be looked upon favourably
