OUT-OF-CONTRACT Gold Coast forward Brandon Matera has had a medical at Fremantle and could be the next ready-made WA product lured home by the Dockers.

The foundation Sun visited Freo's elite training facility at Cockburn on Friday and looks set to request a move home during the NAB AFL Trade Period.

"He was in there on Friday and had a medical test," Matera's manager, Colin Young, told FootyWA.

"We'll be meeting with both Gold Coast and Fremantle this week and we'll see where it sits."

Matera has played 101 games for the Suns and booted 124 goals, and would be a handy long-term replacement for heart-and-soul Freo goalsneak Hayden Ballantyne.

The rebuilding Dockers have stated their intentions to recruit mature-age WA products from rival clubs, and at 25, Matera fits their profile.

Last year, Freo brought Joel Hamling, Bradley Hill, Shane Kersten (all aged 24) and Cam McCarthy (22) back to Perth from interstate.

West Coast also needs small forwards but is not in the race to bring Matera to the club where his father Wally, and uncles Peter and Phil, played 456 games.

"No (interest from West Coast), we've met with Fremantle at this stage," Young said.

Matera started 2017 in impressive fashion, bagging a career-best six goals in his first game for the season against Hawthorn in round three.

He booted 22 goals in 10 matches before a foot injury derailed his campaign.

"He had a pretty good pre-season. He knew it was going to be a tough season for the club," Young said.

"I thought it was one of his best (seasons).

"I think the best football is ahead for Brandon Matera."
