TRENT Cotchin's reputation as one of the greatest blokes in the AFL has continued to grow after it emerged he lifted an injured Daniel Rioli on his shoulders during the Tigers' victory lap after Saturday's Grand Final.

Rioli was struggling to get around the MCG to enjoy the premiership celebrations with his teammates after injuring his left ankle late in the fourth quarter against the Crows.

Cotchin noticed his young teammate was in distress and Rioli said he could not thank his captain enough for his selfless act.

"He's been like that this whole year," Rioli told AFL.com.au.

"He's a great leader and a great teammate.

"He saw I was in a bit of strife and he's a good and caring teammate. He's a family man as well so good on him for picking me up and helping me get off my feet for a bit."

Coach Damien Hardwick said on Sunday that Rioli would most likely require surgery to fix the damage to his ankle

Rioli was in a moonboot and on crutches as he hobbled up on stage to be presented on stage in front of fans at the club's family day on Sunday.

"I've got scans tomorrow and we'll see how we go from there," Rioli said.

"I can't wait to get home and rest the leg and catch up with family and friends and celebrate the win.

"I've got a premiership medal around my neck now and that takes away the pain in in my ankle."
