GOLD Coast says out-of-favour Sydney forward Kurt Tippett has not been discussed as a possible recruit, as the opening morning of NAB AFL Trade Period got underway at Etihad Stadium.

Tippett managed just nine games for the Swans this year, after 17 the year before, with unheralded ruck/forward Callum Sinclair moving ahead of Tippett in the pecking order.

The former Crow moved to Sydney at the end of 2012, and has a contract with the club until the end of 2018.

"We haven't discussed Kurt Tippett. He's contracted to Sydney," Gold Coast list manager Scott Clayton said.

Sydney footy operations manager Tom Harley indicated there was a slight possibility Tippett could be on the move.

"He's contracted but we come in with an open mind … but we're not pre-empting anything with Kurt," Harley said.

The Suns come into the Trade Period keen to get discussions regarding superstar Gary Ablett's request to move back to Geelong.

"We're looking forward to hearing what Geelong has to say," Clayton said.

"We're here to talk. You start to look at the whole picture, who comes in and who goes out … it's never quite a straight line, trade day."

With Geelong reluctant to part with star players, Clayton also flagged the possibility of a third club getting involved in a trade deal.

While Essendon has been mentioned as a potential new home for Suns speedster Adam Saad, who wants to return to Victoria, Clayton said it was not a certainty.

"We're very supportive of Adam. It's about moving to this city [Melbourne] and we want to do the best thing by everyone."

Another player potentially on the Suns' radar is Geelong's Steven Motlop, who is considering his options all around the country.

Clayton said he was not sure where Motlop's current intentions lie, after he spent the weekend talking to the South Australian clubs, Adelaide and Port Adelaide.

"We're chatting, who knows where that goes."
