VETERAN forward Jarrad Waite and injury-plagued midfielder Ben Jacobs are set to play on at North Melbourne in 2018 after being offered new one-year deals.
Following the delistings of Aaron Mullett and Corey Wagner on Tuesday, Waite and Jacobs are among four North players who remain uncontracted. Defender Scott Thompson and second-year midfielder/defender Declan Mountford are the other two.
AFL.com.au reported last week Mountford had opened discussions with North on a new one-year deal, while Thompson is also considering a contract offer to play on with the Roos in 2018.
Waite, who will turn 35 next February, is set to extend his AFL career into a 16th season. Injury and suspension restricted the spearhead to just 10 games in 2017, but he was a strong performer when fit and adapted well to a new role on the wing in the second half of the season.
Jacobs has not played a senior game since round eight, 2016, because of ongoing foot injuries.
But North coach Brad Scott stressed this season the run-with midfielder remained a required player and, in 2018, Jacobs will get a chance to resurrect his career.
The Kangaroos have delisted six players since the end of the season: Mullett, Wagner, Sam Gibson, Lachlan Hansen and rookies Will Fordham and Matthew Taylor.
