THE BATTLE for Sydney big man Kurt Tippett to become a regular senor player again has become harder, with the Swan having an ankle reconstruction on Monday.

Tippett fell out of favour this season and played just nine games.

He has lined up in more than 17 matches in a year just once in his five seasons at Sydney.

The 30-year-old is contracted until the end of 2020, and despite speculation he might move clubs, his manager Peter Blucher told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Monday afternoon that Tippett would be staying put.

"He won't be moving anywhere, for sure. As of about six minutes time, I think he's having an ankle reconstruction. That's going to put him out for a few months," Blucher said.

Meanwhile, defender Aliir Aliir will also be staying in Sydney despite having played just three games this season.

The 23-year-old broke through in 2016 to show great skill as an intercepting backman but did not play in the senior side after round four this year.

"We talk about extensions and we've been talking about them all year," Blucher said.

"He wants to get back playing good, senior footy before he commits to a contract, which perhaps in his eyes might be a little better when he's playing a bit more footy.

"He absolutely loves it in Sydney. He's not going anywhere."

Aliir is contracted until the end of 2018.
