WANTAWAY Adelaide speedster Charlie Cameron sought professional assistance this year, his manager Colin Young has revealed.

With less than 48 hours before the end of the NAB AFL Trade Period, it appears – publicly, at least – that the Crows and the Lions are no closer to agreeing on a trade for Cameron.

The Crows want Cameron to fulfill the final year of his contract and help this year's beaten grand finalists go one step better in 2018.

The Cameron camp are adamant he isn't happy in Adelaide, needs to move to Brisbane on compassionate grounds and believes the Lions have offered more than fair compensation – pick 19 – for a player who was originally chosen in the rookie draft.

Young told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Tuesday that the 23-year-old struggled to deal with homesickness this year, and wanted to return to Brisbane to be closer to family and friends.

"Even if you go back this year to his JLT (Series) games, he just wasn't there," Young said.

"We picked up quite early there were issues and he did seek some professional assistance to get him through the year.

"Brisbane have some great picks in this year's draft that they can offload to Adelaide, and I think Adelaide can come off smelling like roses with this one."

The Crows have made it clear they're not interested in pick 19, or pick 12, which also belongs to the Lions, as it won't help them capitalise on their premiership window.

Last year's 12th overall pick, Jy Simpkin, played 13 games for North Melbourne in 2017, while Port Adelaide picked midfield bull Sam Powell-Pepper with the 18th selection.

The Crows' stance on Cameron could shift if they have any progress in securing Carlton midfielder Bryce Gibbs.

"Adelaide, from what we're hearing through Brisbane, is that (list manager) Justin Reid doesn't want to leave the coach vulnerable and have no players coming in," Young said.

"We understand that, but Charlie didn't finish in the top 10 (in the best and fairest) this year, and obviously didn't play great football, so we feel if he's not there, you have (Wayne) Milera there as well and it's not as if Charlie's not there, they're not going to make the (top) eight.

"They're going to put a great list together, and if they can top it up with Gibbs if that does happen in the last couple days, then I think they still look pretty good next year for a top-two spot.

"We're going to meet with most of the parties tomorrow and give Justin a call, but anything is possible."
