CARLTON has secured some much-needed experience in the form of former Port Adelaide ruckman Matthew Lobbe.

After releasing midfield star Bryce Gibbs to Adelaide earlier on the final day of trading, the Blues snared Lobbe at the bargain-basement price of pick 95 in this year's NAB AFL Draft.

Lobbe, 28, had completed the third year of a five-year contract with the Power, and both parties had been keen to move on from that arrangement.

In those final three years at Alberton, Lobbe had played just 25 games, including none this season, as he slipped further back in the Power's ruck pecking order.

His former teammate Kane Cornes told NAB AFL Trade Radio he couldn't speak highly enough of the character of Lobbe, whom he said would prove invaluable to the developing Carlton side with his professionalism and selflessness.

The No.16 pick in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft, Lobbe has played 93 games, 62 of them in the 2013-15 period.
