ADELAIDE speedster Charlie Cameron has been granted his wish to be traded to the Brisbane Lions for pick 12.

It took until 1.44pm on Thursday – with just 16 minutes to go in the NAB AFL Trade Period – before the deal was officially signed off.

The sticking point was the compensation for 23-year-old Cameron, who was contracted to the Crows for 2018, but requested a move to Brisbane for compassionate reasons.

The Lions initially put an end of first-round pick on the table before ramping up their offer to pick 12.

The Crows originally said pick 12 wouldn't be enough for a club that was in the premiership window and coming off playing in the Grand Final.

But that stance changed with the additions of Carlton star Bryce Gibbs and North Melbourne veteran Sam Gibson.

"This is what is best for Charlie, on and off the field," Crows list manager Justin Reid said.

"The Adelaide Football Club did the right thing by Charlie and pick 12 is a great result.

"We had good dialogue with Brisbane the whole way through.

"Brisbane wanted to get Charlie back up there from a family point of view and it's a great result for both clubs."

Lions general manager of football David Noble said although the trade went right down to the wire, in the end, pick 12 was a fair deal.

"It was probably where we expected," Noble said.

"We had some really amicable discussions with Adelaide and we got it done.

"We're rapt to have Charlie here and he fits a real need for us."

Cameron played 73 games for the Crows since he was selected with the seventh pick of the 2012 rookie draft.

"We're really happy and just want to thank Justin Reid and the Adelaide Crows for honouring Charlie's wishes," Cameron's manager Andrew McDougall said.

"As we said all along, he's got a lot of family up there and it's going to be really good for him to get back home and be a part of the club.

"I spoke to Charlie, he was getting a little bit nervous, but at the same time, his heart was always with Brisbane and just thank Adelaide for getting the deal through.

"Obviously you build relationships with clubs over a long period of time, so it worked out well."
