MELBOURNE has announced a host of changes to its jumper numbers for the 2018 season.

Along with the Demons' new recruits and draftees, some existing players also swapped lockers, resulting in eight changes in total.

Of the newcomers, former Adelaide defender Jake Lever will wear retired Demon Heritier Lumumba's No.8, while ex-Docker Harley Balic (27), and draftees Charlie Spargo (9), Bayley Fritsch (31), Oskar Baker (33) and Harrison Petty (35) have all been officially welcomed to the club.

A couple of Demons have also moved up the pecking order with James Harmes taking over the coveted No.4, worn previously by the legendary Norm Smith, and recently vacated by Jack Watts, who moved to Port Adelaide during the NAB AFL Trade Period.

In a nice touch for tough midfielder Corey Maynard, he's been handed the No.20, the jumper his grandfather Graham Campbell played in at Fitzroy, after the retirement of key defender Colin Garland.

Spargo's No.9 was worn by former Dees captain and star forward David Neitz in a club record 286 of his 306 games, while Fritsch inherits the number of one of the game's most famous names, Ron Barassi.
