MELBOURNE great Todd Viney will have more varied football department responsibilities this year as part of a Demons reshuffle.

Viney has been a pivotal off-field member at Melbourne since returning to the club in 2010 after coaching stints at Adelaide and Hawthorn.

The former club captain, who played 233 games for the Demons between 1987 and 1999, technically remains as player personnel manager, but with a different job description.

Viney's new wide-ranging duties will see him provide support for Melbourne's fitness, recruiting and coaching staff, while still being an authoritative voice on list decisions.

His son, Jack, shares the Demons' co-captaincy with Nathan Jones and is expected to eventually hold the position in his own right.

Melbourne's national recruiting officer, Tim Lamb, will have an increased role and take over some of Viney's former tasks, with senior coach Simon Goodwin keen to get him more involved.

The changes come a week after AFL.com.au revealed Goodwin would hand the club's AFLX coaching responsibilities to Craig Jennings, the Demons' strategy and education coordinator.
