CROSSTOWN rivals Sydney and Greater Western Sydney will face off in a practice match on Friday evening in Marrickville.

The two clubs decided to play the game since neither has a contest in the JLT Community Series this weekend.

Swans duo Lance Franklin and Isaac Heeney are in the mix to play. The club will know more about who will line up after training on Wednesday.

Franklin had surgery on both knees and an ankle in the off-season while Heeney had a knee operation last December.

Umpires will be there to officiate the four-quarter match from 5.30pm at Henson Park, with the Giants to field a squad of about 30.

The length of each term will differ depending on what the clubs decide, and the second half is likely to be shorter than the first.

One confirmed starter in is gun forward Jeremy Cameron. He missed the Giants' last two finals with a left hamstring injury and did not take part in last week's AFLX tournament either.

This is not the first time the Giants have been involved in a contest of this nature. Last year, their reserves side faced Adelaide's reserves side a day after the two teams had taken part in a qualifying final.

Hawthorn and Richmond took part in an AFLX practice match earlier this year while Geelong and North Melbourne, coached by brothers Chris and Brad Scott respectively, have had training sessions together in past pre-seasons.

The Giants begin their JLT Community Series campaign against Collingwood on Thursday, March 1, while Sydney will play its first game two days later, against Brisbane.
