GREATER Western Sydney has picked a powerful squad to face crosstown rival Sydney in a practice match on Friday evening in Marrickville.

The Giants' squad is headlined by All Australian duo Josh Kelly and Dylan Shiel, while spearheads Jeremy Cameron and Jonathon Patton are also slated to play.

Fellow star midfielders Stephen Coniglio and Lachie Whitfield, after featuring in AFLX, will also pull on the Giants' guernsey.

JLT week one squads: Star recruits unleashed

Toby Greene, still recovering from a broken toe he suffered while holidaying in New York in the off-season, and running machine Tom Scully are among the biggest names missing.

Top draftee Aiden Bonar, pick No.11 in last year's NAB AFL Draft, and Collingwood recruit Lachie Keeffe have been named.

Veteran Giant Ryan Griffen, who missed almost the entire 2017 season with a serious ankle injury, will play in the scratch match.

Sydney stars Lance Franklin and Josh Kennedy are expected to line up in the clash at 5.30pm at Henson Park.

Franklin had surgery on both knees and an ankle in the off-season.

Tom Papley and Sam Naismith, after mildly interrupted campaigns, will also play, as flagged by coach John Longmire earlier on Thursday.

The two clubs decided to play the game since neither has a contest in the JLT Community Series this weekend.

The Giants begin their JLT Community Series campaign against Collingwood on Thursday, March 1, while Sydney will play its first game two days later, against Brisbane.
