SCANS have confirmed Geelong superstar Gary Ablett suffered a right hamstring strain in Sunday's loss to West Coast at Optus Stadium.

The 33-year-old is refusing to put a timeline on a potential return from his second hamstring of 2018 after a setback in pre-season training.

"The scans are as expected and I will be out for a few weeks with a hamstring strain," Ablett told the club's website.

"I will do everything I can to rehab the injury and get back out there.

"Obviously it is disappointing to miss playing the next few games with the team, but it is a long season and we are all positive that this will be a minor setback."

Geelong said no return date has been set because "each player can heal at a different rate".

Ablett missed five games in 2017, his last year at the Gold Coast Suns, with hamstring injuries.
