JORDAN De Goey looks set to return to Collingwood's team for Friday night's clash with Adelaide, but midfielder Taylor Adams and gun forward Jamie Elliott won't be available after suffering hamstring strains at training on Wednesday.

Adams didn't take part in any of the match simulation in the second half of the session and instead appeared to undergo a running and kicking fitness test.

He didn't look entirely comfortable as he finished up well before his teammates and was later seen sporting a compression bandage on his left upper leg.

Elliott's return to the AFL side will be delayed by at least a week, with the talented forward also leaving the track early.

Coach Nathan Buckley admitted the sharpshooter was sore after kicking five goals in the VFL on Saturday and initially believed Adams had a tight back.

But scans have revealed minor hamstring strains, with their return dates to full training to be determined in the coming week.

De Goey was one of the Pies' best in their VFL win over the Northern Blues, with four goals after starting the game in the midfield.

On Wednesday, he lined up in the "probables" team in match simulation and played deep forward, where he took two nice marks.

"He came out of the game pretty well and he's had a fair amount of training," Buckley said.

"We'll consider him this week and look at the balance of the squad this afternoon."

Fellow forward Alex Fasolo was in the other team and despite kicking three goals on Saturday in the landslide VFL victory, looks likely to miss selection again.

Levi Greenwood has ramped up his work load following complications from pre-Christmas knee surgery.

Greenwood is training fully after consultation with specialists regarding lingering pain, but Buckley said the former Kangaroo had recently "taken a step in the right direction".

Big-bodied midfielder Brayden Sier trained away from the group on Wednesday and focused on running drills, while Josh Smith moved well at pace and is on track to return from a hamstring injury in the next fortnight.

Darcy Moore and Kayle Kirby were also briefly on the track; Moore as he works his way back from an Achilles injury and Kirby after last week's heart scare.

And Daniel Wells trained fully as he aims to play 65-75 per cent in the VFL on Saturday against Port Melbourne after missing last week's game.

Buckley said the aim was to make Wells more "robust" after a litany of pre-season complaints, but he admitted the skillful veteran "still had a bit of work to do" to get to the point of playing consecutive games.

The Pies are facing a tough task against the Crows on Friday night at a venue where they haven't won in four attempts.
