THE TEAM at Champion Data run their eyes over the numbers to adjust positional classification based on what role they're playing. This is based on the information collected throughout games including where a player lines up, their possession heat map and other relevant statistics in order to award dual-position status.

Dual-position players (DPPs) have the ability to be selected in two positions and add flexibility to your Fantasy Classic and Draft squads, especially when there is a player with the same classification to switch with.

Every six rounds Champion Data updates players who warrant a change. It is important to note that players can never lose a position, only gain; therefore the 22 new DPPs were originally named in a single position and now are available in two positions.

New FWD status

North Melbourne has played Jack Ziebell (MID/FWD) predominately as a forward this season. While he has stints in the midfield (37 per cent), he has kicked eight goals in the opening five rounds.

Magpie Will Hoskin-Elliott (MID/FWD) could have been a late-round draft selection, or even still available as a free agent, whose value has increased since gaining forward status.

Port Adelaide recruit Tom Rockliff (MID/FWD) went in the first two rounds of thousands of Fantasy Drafts and he has been nothing short of a letdown, averaging just 51.5 points and is currently out with a calf injury. The former Lions captain and Fantasy Pig is now available to be selected as a forward. Whether you do it right now or not is up to you, but with a slow start to his career in the teal, 'Rocky' could be a handy acquisition after the Power's round 10 bye following the trip to China. His Fantasy credentials are as good as anyone’s, so keep an eye on when his price bottoms out and jump on!

Rookies picking up DPP status helps with their flexibility in your Classic squad, not only to help with cover, but also when trading. Lachlan Murphy (DEF/FWD) was originally named as a defender, but has assumed a role in the forward pocket for the Crows. Cat Lachlan Fogarty (MID/FWD) has averaged 69 points, coming off a season high of 96, and is now available to switch up forward.

New DEF status

It was highlighted in the pre-season and true to its word, Greater Western Sydney has deployed Lachie Whitfield (DEF/MID) to play off half-back. He has registered 64 per cent of his time as a defender. After starting the season in sensational form scoring 114 and 123, his returns of 65, 66 and 67 in the last three rounds have been more than frustrating for his owners. He can now be sent to defence instead of clogging up a midfield position.

Essendon utility Brendon Goddard (DEF/MID) is among the biggest names to add DEF status. In the last nine seasons, he has registered a season average of 95 or more. He is well and truly in the mix as a top Fantasy defender this season as is Fremantle's Connor Blakely (DEF/MID). The 22-year-old made a move to half-back last season before a shoulder injury ended his year. That role has continued, and while his scores have been sporadic thus far, he has two Fantasy tons to his name and is every chance to average more than 90.

Blakely's teammate, Stephen Hill (DEF/MID), has also picked up defender status and is currently averaging 85 points per game.

Jordan Lewis (DEF/MID) is averaging fewer than 70 points. Coaches who drafted the Demon can now send him to the backline.

New RUC status

Two players have added ruck status. Rory Lobb (RUC/FWD) was flagged as a sure thing to gain DPP back in October when Shane Mumford announced his retirement. The Giants will be hoping he resumes his No.1 ruck role after missing the last two rounds with a knee injury.

Playing as support to Matthew Kreuzer and filling the Blues' big shoes while injured has been Levi Casboult (RUC/FWD).

New MID status

Although there is usually little Fantasy relevance on a player adding midfield to their positional status, it does offer extra flexibility.

Devon Smith (MID/FWD) made his move to the Bombers to spend more minutes in the midfield. That he is with 66 per cent of his game time is as a MID. Robbie Gray (MID/FWD) has also enjoyed a lot of time running around the middle after playing inside the forward 50 the majority of last season.

With the byes approaching, the ability to flick these guys into the midfield may help you save a zero when carnage strikes!
