YOUNG St Kilda wingman Ed Phillips will debut against Fremantle on Saturday night against Fremantle.

Phillips was drafted at No.56 in 2016 and is one of the best runners at the club, providing captain Jarryn Geary plenty of competition in the time trials.

He is the brother of Tom, who is having a fine season at Collingwood.

The 20-year-old has racked up 69 disposals in the VFL over the past fortnight.

St Kilda coach Alan Richardson gave Phillips a big endorsement.

"I reckon there'd be a strong case to argue that this bloke's probably our most in-form player," Richardson said.

Midfielder Blake Acres is ready to return for the clash, while backmen Sam Gilbert (right ankle) and Shane Savage (thigh) have also been passed fit to play, with the trio completing Thursday's main training session at RSEA Park in Moorabbin.

Acres, 22, was left out of the side last week, and the club originally said he was 'managed' without offering any further clarification.

Saints football manager Simon Lethlean told Melbourne radio station SEN on Monday it was a groin concern that kept him out.

The West Australian has averaged 23 disposals per game this year, and is ranked No.19 in the competition for average score involvements.

Gilbert and Savage both left the ground in the last quarter of St Kilda's 39-point loss to Melbourne last Sunday at Etihad Stadium.

St Kilda, which sits 1-5 with a draw against Greater Western Sydney, is the lowest-scoring side in the AFL (average of 65 points), and hasn't kicked more goals than behinds since its round one victory over Brisbane.
