JAMIE Elliott's wretched run with injury has continued, with the Collingwood star lasting less than 15 minutes in his return to footy.

Lining up in Collingwood's VFL team after four weeks on the sidelines because of a hamstring issue, Elliott sat on the bench for the entire first quarter, with the Magpies managing his workload.

He started on the ground in the second term before limping into into the rooms.

The club confirmed Elliott re-injured his troublesome hamstring.

The 25-year-old has been plagued by injuries in recent times.

Ankle and hamstring issues have restricted him to just one VFL appearance in 2018 (he kicked kicked five goals against Carlton at Preston City Oval in round one on April 7), an ankle issue kept him sidelined until round four last year, while he missed the entire 2016 season with back problems.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's VFL clash against Geelong, Geoff Walsh, Collingwood's general manager of football, said: "Pleasingly, Jamie will resume in the VFL and play 60 to 70 per cent of the game.

"Everyone will be looking forward to that – Jamie has been on the sidelines for a fair while now, and it's great that we are going to be able to get him back.

"He had a full week of training last week and we will follow that up this week and will see him resume in the VFL."

Elliott has kicked 138 goals from 89 games since making his debut in round nine in 2012.
