BRISBANE star defender Harris Andrews is set to visit a neurosurgeon this week with the meeting to determine when he may be able to return to the field, coach Chris Fagan says.

Andrews, 21, suffered a severe concussion and a bleed on the brain in an incident involving Giant Jeremy Cameron when the teams clashed in round 14.

Cameron was suspended for five matches for the elbow that knocked Andrews out, with the star Lion spending 48 hours in hospital after the game when his condition worsened.

"He'll (Andrews) see a neurosurgeon this week and he'll have another set of concussion tests," Fagan told SEN on Monday morning.

"He did some more of those concussion tests last week and there's been a definite improvement, but he's still not good enough to play."

Depending on the results of tests this week, Fagan is hopeful Andrews may be able to run out with the team in its round 18 clash against Adelaide at the Gabba.

However, the Lions coach said the Lions would be extremely careful with Andrews' recovery given the nature of his injury.

"I doubt very much he'll be available for this weekend, but fingers crossed he might be available for the following weekend," Fagan said.

"He won't play until he ticks all the boxes."

The Lions recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since 2015 after pumping Carlton by 65 points at the Gabba on Saturday.
