CAT FANS aren't happy with coach Chris Scott.

After seeing their side dumped from the finals by a red-hot Melbourne, just 40 per cent approved of Scott's performance when giving their season verdict in an AFL.com.au survey.

It's the lowest approval rating in two years for Scott, whose record as coach is polarising.

In his debut season, he guided the Cats to the 2011 premiership and they have made the top eight in every year of his reign except 2015.

However, they have won only three of their past 12 finals.

Expectations were high for 2018 after dual Brownlow medallist Gary Ablett arrived to form the 'Holy Trinity' with Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood – on paper one of footy's most formidable midfield trios.

However, it was mature-age draftee Tim Kelly who fans voted their player of the season.

The 24-year-old averaged 23 disposals and a goal per game.

The first quarter of the elimination final. Profound disappointment but not unexpected because Scott cannot coach in finals or after a bye.

The moments I thought 'this year would be different'. I wish they'd put as much preparation into winning as into Wacky Wednesday.
