AFL.com.au first reported the Tasmanian could be leaving in July.

Hall, who turns 28 next month, has played 103 games since he was recruited with the No.7 pick in the 2011 pre-season draft.

He managed six games this season, with a pectoral injury forcing him to the sidelines.

He said playing finals was a major factor in his decision to join North Melbourne.

"I have played 100 games and haven’t looked like playing finals and that has been a massive driver for me in this decision. Hopefully I can help make them a better team with my attributes," Hall said.

His manager Liam Pickering was excited about what Hall could add to the club.

"I think he's got some versatility in the way he plays. He can play midfield, he can play inside mid, he can play wing and he can play half-back, so I think he's got some tricks as well," Pickering told reporters.

North football manager Cameron Joyce was optimistic Hall could return to his peak form.

"Aaron had two breakout seasons only a year or so ago and is coming off some minor injury concerns but is fit and firing now," Joyce said.

"At his best, he can mix it with some of the best midfielders in the competition and we know he’ll get back to that level which is really exciting."

Hall tallied 21 Brownlow votes in 2016-17, testament to his ability to play brilliant footy at his best.

"Aaron has been a fantastic contributor for the club, playing 103 games, since joining in the 2011 NAB Pre-Season Draft," Suns list manager Craig Cameron said.

"We thank Aaron for his efforts over the previous seven seasons and wish him and his young family all the best for the future."
