GREATER Western Sydney is considering handing an AFL lifeline to delisted Fremantle defender Tommy Sheridan.

AFL.com.au understands the Giants have met with Sheridan, who was cut by the Dockers last week alongside Cam Sutcliffe and Brady Grey and who can be picked up as a delisted free agent when the period opens on November 1.

The 24-year-old played 13 games and kicked nine goals for the Dockers this season, notching 81 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2012.

The flexibility allowing clubs to trade on draft night means the Giants may wait until closer to the time before deciding whether to take on any delisted free agents.

Sheridan has shown his capacity to provide run and rebound out of the back half, but has also been played through the midfield in the past.

He was drafted with pick 16 at the 2011 NAB AFL Draft and made his senior debut the following year.

Sheridan was a part of the Fremantle side that made the preliminary final in 2015, when he averaged 18 disposals in 19 games.

"It's quite sad when I think about the whole situation, yet on the flip side it's quite exciting! Thanks to everyone who has reached out and sent messages the past few weeks, feeling very humbled and thankful to have so much support around me," Sheridan said in an Instagram post revealing his delisting last week.

"I'm really looking forward to the next chapter wherever and whatever that is."
