MELBOURNE has sent Jake Lever in for a minor procedure to fix irritation caused by scar tissue around his reconstructed left knee.

Lever will go in for the operation on Wednesday to clean up the scarring around his knee and the club hopes he will be able to return to the training track as soon as next Monday.

The Demons have stressed the defender's anterior cruciate ligament remains intact despite the latest setback.

It is understood the irritation flares when Lever begins to pick up the pace in his running, causing the scar to stretch and leaving the defender with some pain in his knee.

"From all reports surgery (knee reconstruction) went well but he just went in today to clean up around that knee," teammate Jordan Lewis said.

"It can become a little bit frustrating for him because he wants to get the ball rolling again and join back in with the main group, but from all reports he'll be back on Monday and straight back into rehab.

Lever suffered the second injury to the ACL in his knee of his career in July last season in round 11 against the Western Bulldogs.

It was the second time the 22-year-old had torn the ACL in his left knee. Lever had a knee reconstruction as a 17-year-old before being drafted by Adelaide with pick No.14 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.
