COLLINGWOOD is adamant star forward Jordan De Goey will be right to resume training in the new year despite missing the club's final sessions of 2018 due to illness.

De Goey was not at training on Monday as the players completed a Yo-Yo fitness test and also was not present for the Magpies' last training session of the year on Tuesday as a result of gastro, according to the club.

Reports had surfaced in recent days that De Goey may have been battling a hamstring injury after his absences at training.

However, Magpies football manager Geoff Walsh denied that was the case when asked by AFL.com.au.

"He's fine. He'll be all right and he'll be resuming training when the boys come back (after Christmas on January 7)," Walsh said.

De Goey began pre-season on a modified program after managing a foot injury in the back half of 2018. The forward gradually built his running up through late November and December and was in full training a week ago.
